Cytopathogenesis in AIDS
Cytokines dysregulation in HIV-1-infected foci is triggered
by HIV-1 Tat protein released by infected cells. In its
extracellular configuration, this viral protein exerts its
immune suppressive effects particularly by enhancing IFN-alpha
production. IFN-alpha is locally overproduced in HIV-1-infected
lymphoid tissues.
NEOVACS' Tat toxoid and IFN-alpha kinoid counteract these
cytopathic effects by inducing neutralizing Abs against locally
released Tat viral toxin and against overproduced IFN-alpha
respectively.
