Microenvironmental disorders exhibited by malignant
tumors
Abnormal features characterize the microenvironment of cancer
cells:
1) a dense vascular network to supply nutrients required by
tumor cells. This is the result of the generation of new capillaries
(neoangiogenesis);
2) numerous immune cells: lymphocytes and Antigen Presenting
Cells (APC: macrophages and dendritic cells);
3) abundant body fluid exudate as a result of inflammation.
These features are triggered by local factors released by
cancer cells. These pathologic local factors are of various
origins, some viral (such as HPV-16 E7, HTLV-1 Tax protein)
and others cytokinic such as the Vascular Endothelial Growth
Factor (VEGF).
NEOVACS' E7 toxoid immunogen targets deleterious effects of
HPV-16 E7 viral toxin in cervix cancer by triggering specific
neutralizing Abs. NEOVACS' VEGF kinoid immunogen targets neoangiogenesis
in cancer by eliciting neutralizing Abs against VEGF.
