Neovacs, a biotech company pioneering the development of anticytokine and anti-viral regulation protein therapeutic vaccines for the treatment of certain cancers and inflammatory diseases, today announced a major €13 million share capital increase with the Novartis Venture Fund as the lead investor. Truffle Capital, an investor and majority shareholder since 2003, has reinvested €4 million in Neovacs.

Neovacs and Inserm units U543 & U764  present the preclinical proof-of-concept of "IFN-alpha Kinoid" anti-IFN-alpha vaccine in a NZB/NZW F1 lupus prone mice model.
Active immunization with IFNα Kinoid prevents the development of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in an IFNα-induced murine model of lupus disease.

Neovacs, a biotech company pioneering the development of anti-cytokine and anti-viral regulation protein therapeutic vaccines, announces the publication of an article on anti-VEGF kinoid vaccination in the February 20 edition of the prestigious journal PNAS (the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA). The authors demonstrate that active immunization against VEGF was effective in several solid tumor models. This vaccine represents a new therapeutic strategy in the treatment of malignant tumors by inhibiting their neovascularization.

Tumor growth depends on blood supply, requiring the development of new vessels, and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) plays a central role in neoangiogenic processes. For this reason, VEGF represents a target for the development of new therapeutic antiangiogenic molecules. Clinical trials using anti- VEGF mAbs such as bevacizumab have validated the efficacy of this therapeutic approach but have also revealed adverse effects.

Néovacs, a biotech company pioneering the development of anti-cytokine and anti-viral regulation protein therapeutic vaccines, announces the publication of an article on anti-TNF-alpha therapeutic vaccination in
the December 21st edition of the prestigious journal PNAS (the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA). The research shows that active immunization against an endogenous cytokine may be a feasible approach in treating pathologies associated with high TNF-alpha production, such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, psoriasis and cachexia.

TNF-alpha kinoid vaccination-induced neutralizing antibodies to TNF-alpha protect mice from autologous TNF-alpha-driven chronic and acute inflammation. The proinflammatory cytokine TNF-alpha is a potent mediator of septic shock and a therapeutic target for chronic inflammatory pathologies including rheumatoid arthritis and Crohn’s disease.
As an alternative to anti-human TNF-alpha (hTNF-alpha) mAbs and other hTNF-alpha blocker approved drugs, we developed an active anti-hTNF-alpha immunotherapy, based on a vaccine comprised of a keyhole limpet hemocyanin-hTNF-alpha heterocomplex immunogen (hTNF-alpha kinoid) adjuvanted in incomplete Freund’s adjuvant.
